In addition to its work on research, social innovation and family policy, the Family and Parenting Institute is involved in a number of projects.

  • Early Learning Partnership Project - The ELPP will demonstrate different approaches to identifying and engaging parents of children aged 1-3 who are at risk of learning delay, and support them to get involved in their child's early learning. The focus will be on parents who may not otherwise understand the value of their role in their child's early learning, or would not know how to get involved.

  • The National Academy for Parenting Practitioners - NAPP is funded by Department for Children, Schools and Families and provided by the Family and Parenting Institute, King's College and Parenting UK. It was launched in October 2007 as a centre of excellence, providing training for those who support parents in the community; and research on what methods work to support parents.

  • The Parenting Fund - Through the Parenting Fund the government is funding the voluntary and community sector in England to strengthen support services for parents. It has targeted parents where families are at risk, for one reason or another, and who may have not been able to get hold easily of the services they need. The fund is being used to build and strengthen the work that the voluntary and community sector does with parents. The Family and Parenting Institute (FPI) is managing the Parenting Fund on behalf of the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF).

  • Starting School Project - The Family and Parenting Institute was awarded a contract by DfES (now DCFS) to deliver the project, in partnership with 4Children. Training in delivering parent information sessions is being rolled out across every local authority in England, with local practitioners will be trained in facilitating the sessions which deliver information to parents at key transition stages in their child's school career, covering child development, supporting children's education and accessing local services.
